Workshop Topics
Topic 1: Histiocytic and dendritic cell neoplasms
Cases with neoplastic (non-reactive) histiocytic proliferations involving the bone marrow (with or without associated myeloid neoplasms), including histiocyte/macrophage neoplasms (e.g. ALK-positive histiocytosis, Erdheim-Chester disease, disseminated juvenile xanthogranuloma), Langerhans cell- and other dendritic cell neoplasms (e.g. Langerhans cell sarcoma, indeterminate dendritic cell histiocytosis) and plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasms (mature plasmacytoid dendritic cell proliferation associated with myeloid neoplasm, blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm). Reactive histiocytic proliferations in the bone marrow are excluded.
Topic 2: Myeloid neoplasms with unusual patterns of disease progression other than acute leukemia
Cases of myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN), myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative neoplasms (MDS/MPN) and myelodysplastic syndromes/neoplasms (MDS) with unusual patterns of disease progression (e.g. MDS-like or CMML-like progression of a previously diagnosed MPN; MPN-like progression of MDS; CNL-like progression of MPN or MDS; BPDCN and other PDC outgrowths in MDS/MPN, MDS or MPN; cytogenetic/molecular progression without leukemic transformation; myeloid neoplasms with “transdifferentiation”).
Cases of MPN progressing to secondary myelofibrosis and cases of myeloid neoplasms progressing to AML are excluded.
Topic 3: B-cell lymphoproliferations in the bone marrow without defining molecular features
Challenging cases of EBV-negative mono- and polymorphic B-cell lymphoproliferations in the bone marrow associated with immune deficiency. Diagnostic approach to bone marrow involvement of small B-cell lymphomas that lack specific disease defining molecular markers (e.g. splenic marginal zone lymphoma; splenic B-cell lymphoma/leukaemia with prominent nucleoli/unclassifiable/hairy cell leukemia-variant/B-PLL; splenic diffuse red pulp small B-cell lymphoma); other small B cell lymphomas difficult to classify; with integration of morphology, immunophenotyping and molecular studies.
Cases of CLL, mantle cell lymphoma, lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma and follicular lymphoma, as well as aggressive B-cell lymphomas involving the bone marrow are excluded.
Submission guidelines
A case submission to the workshop consists of three parts:
– Abstract submission
– Presentation upload
– Shipping stained slides or unstained sections (and additional whole slide images, optional)
Please read the essentials for cases carefully as abstracts not prepared correctly will not be considered for presentation.
– PDF Submission with relevant morphological images and immunostainings
– Case text is limited to 3,500 characters (including punctuation and spaces)
– Case must be submitted in English
– Please structure your case as follows:
Clinical History
BM Biopsy fixation/decalcification details
Morphological findings
Immunophenotype
Cytogenetics
Molecular studies
Proposed diagnosis
Interesting feature(s) of submitted case
– No tables and no graphics can be used
– All cases must contain original work
– Please choose a topic (i.e. HP, histiocytic proliferations, MN, myeloid neoplasms, of BLP, B-cell lymphoproliferations)
– Please upload your slides (max. 10 MB, PDF or PowerPoint)
– Please check spelling and grammar carefully. All abstracts will be published as submitted.
Directions to send samples:
- Two H&E and 5 to 10 unstained sections (in cases with very limited tissue please prioritize unstained sections).
- Please clearly label the slides with the Workshop case Number generated at case submission (e.g. EBMWG2025-HP-xxxx).
- Print out the workshop case abstract that is generated after submission and send along with the glass slides.
- Include contact details (email) of the submitting/corresponding author in the package that will be sent.
- Please indicate that goods have “a commercial value of €1.00” to avoid customs and import duties.
- Check list before you send your case:
– Are the slides properly labeled with the correct Workshop case Number?
– Have you printed and enclosed the Workshop case abstract?
– Are the contact details (email and telephone number) included?
– Due to international restrictions, please send your slides by courier indicating a commercial value of €1.00.
Directions to send files:
- In case you choose the option to send scanned files, the system will provide an upload link.
- Please clearly label the files with the Workshop case number generated at the submission (e.g. EBMWG2025-HP-xxxx or EBMWG2025-MN-xxxx or EBMWG2025-BLP-xxxx).
- In case you want to submit several scanned files, it necessary to submit each as a single file and the addition of the staining (e.g, EBMWG2025-HP-xxxx-H&E or EBMWG2025-HP-xxxx-CD68 etc.).
- Upload the scanned files representative of the bone marrow biopsy following the instructions of that e-mail.
- The system accepts virtually all common data formats (e.g., SVS, JPEG, JP2, TIFF, PNG, SCN, NDPI, etc.).
- In case of problems with your upload, please contact suppport@smartinmedia.com
